Muhlenberg Co. crews demolish burned Watson home

MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) -

The Watson family home, where nine people died last month, was demolished in Muhlenberg County.

Road department workers began the job Tuesday morning, tearing down what was left of the burned out home in the community of Depot.

Officials said an electric baseboard heater started the fire.

We're told that several people had requested the county tear the house down, and in less than a day with six dump trucks, the job was completed.

"We're hoping it's some sort of closure for them. When they come back on the scene and maybe the memories will always be here, but to get rid of this, I think it will be a great thing for the family to see that it's all gone and come back with a new beginning hopefully," said Robert Rhoades, the Muhlenberg County Roads Superintendent.

Chad, who survived the fire, along with his daughter Kylie, is expected tell his story this Sunday. The celebration of life is set for 2:00 p.m. at Felix Martin Hall.

We're told Chad wants everyone there, including the first responders who were called to his home in the early morning hours of January 30.
