Police to excavate vacant lot in search of possible body

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) – Police are planning to excavate a portion of a vacant lot in an Elizabethtown neighborhood after officers received a tip a body may be buried on the land.

Elizabethtown Police Department spokesperson Officer Virgil Willoughby said they will being to dig on the lot located on East Railroad Avenue on Friday.

Police said they received the tip last week, but the investigation was slowed down due to weather. They started back up again Wednesday and were able to line up cadaver dogs and ground penetrating radar.

Neighbors and a family member said a man by the name of Larry Sherrard used to live on the lot police are investigating. The family member said that Sherrard was recently released from prison and died earlier this month. At this point there is no link between Sherrard and investigation on the property on East Railroad Avenue.
