Father accused of shooting teenage son

MARANGO, IN (WAVE) – A Crawford County man was arrested early Saturday morning for the shooting of his teenage son.

According to a news release from the Crawford County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to White Oak Subdivision about 2:20 a.m. Saturday on a report of a gunshot victim. They found 18-year-old Paul Schmitt with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was airlifted to a Louisville hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

Schmitt's father, Floyd Kennylee Schmitt, was also at the scene. He was taken into custody.

The elder Schmitt is being held at the Crawford County Jail. He is preliminarily charged with aggravated battery. Bond was set at $27,500.

The case is under investigation.
