(Bellarmine University Release )
INDIANAPOLIS-The Bellarmine University Knights needed a huge effort on the road tonight against the No. 4 Indianapolis Greyhounds, and that's exactly what they got in picking up a 96-81 victory in the Great Lakes Valley Conference game in Nicoson Hall.
Bellarmine (20-5, 12-5 GLVC) fired on all cylinders from the outset and led almost from start to finish. The Greyhounds (22-3, 14-3 GLVC) took the lead just once in the early proceedings as BU built a double digit lead in the first half and led 45-35 at the break. The Knights scorched the nets all night long, shooting exactly 60 percent from the floor in both halves including nailing 14 of 21 3-pointers.
Bellarmine Coach Scott Davenport said, "Fourteen out of 21 threes is just an unbelievable number, but they were all off of great passing. Their poise was tremendous," he said of his team. "They didn't turn it over and they hit free throws. It was just great execution."
The ninth year coach also said a large contingent of fans who made the trek to Nicoson Hall helped give the team a lift. "I want to thank these Bellarmine people who came up here. The support we had from Louisville tonight was absolutely tremendous."
Bellarmine got solid contributions from just about every player who logged minutes tonight. George Suggs led the Knights with 21 points and five rebounds, and Vance Hall added 17 points and eight assists. Also reaching double figures for the Knights were Keisten Jones with 16 and Josh Derksen with 12.
