LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Police arrested a suspect in the 2013 disappearance of a man who turned up dead about three miles from his home.

Joseph Starling, 43, was arrested Sunday, four months after the crime, and charged with kidnapping.

Police said Starling, along with an unnamed co-defendant, went to the home of Robert Holt on October 24, 3013 on Stardust Drive off Dixie Highway near the Jefferson-Bullitt County line.

According to an arrest report, Holt attempted to flee from his aggressors, but they chased him and beat him before putting him in a car and driving to another location.

Once there, detectives said Starling and the other suspect pulled Holt out of the car and continued to beat him.

Holt's body was found in Bullitt County on October 26, dumped over a guard rail within three miles of his home.

Police found Starling after observing him engaging in suspicious drug behavior in the early morning hours of Sunday along Hurstbourne Parkway. When detectives ran the plates on the car they discovered the registered owner had an outstanding warrant.

Officers followed Starling and initiated a traffic stop at I-265 and Taylorsville Road during which they found him to be in possession of a meth-like substance, marijuana, $378 in cash, packaging materials and digital scales.

During his arrest, Starling asked police to not tow "his car" and said he paid for the insurance and all other expenses for the vehicle.

He was arrested on an outstanding warrant for the charge of kidnapping Robert Holt.

In addition to that charge, Starling faces additional charges of first degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and careless driving.
