The crash happened around 3 p.m. at 10th and Main Streets in Jeffersonville. According to police, Officer Robert Grinestaff was clearing the street, making sure it was safe for other officers responding to the bank robbery, when a car slammed into his cruiser while he was in it.

Grinestaff, a three-year veteran of the Jeffersonville Police Department, was alert and responsive when he was taken to University of Louisville Hospital. The exact nature of his injuries was not immediately clear. The jaws of life were used to remove Grinestaff from the car.

A woman in the second car was also alert when she was transported to University Hospital. Her injuries were not believed to be serious.

Louisville Metro police closed roads to accommodate faster access to the hospital as Grinestaff was rushed there.

The bank robbery happened shortly before 3 p.m. at the Your Community Bank branch at 2917 East 10th Street, just north of the crash scene.
