SIMPSONVILLE, KY (WAVE) – In just a few months Kentucky's first high-end outlet mall will open. Not only does this mean a lot of excitement for shoppers, but it's good news for job seekers and the bottom line.

From an open field to a 370,000 square foot retail hot spot, progress is being made at The Outlet Shoppes at Louisville. Now all eyes are on what will come next.

"Restaurants, hotels, other spin off retail developments, that's probably what you are going to see in that area," said Ryan Libke, Triple S Planning Commission Executive Director.

Known for its burgers and custard, Culver's was approved late last week by the Triple S. It is the first business to snag a neighboring lot.

"A 4,200 square foot restaurant with a drive-thru," said Libke.

Libke said Bob Evans is also on the table. It's not a surprise to business owner Jason Lois who carefully picked where he wanted to open his first lounge, Executive Cigar.

"It's getting ready to really boom with the outlet mall across the interstate, the hotels and restaurants that will ensue when that gets open, it's just the right place and the right time," said Lois.

While the area may be quiet now, he knows that is temporary. "It's growing by leaps and bounds and I keep on hearing about new things that will be coming into the area," said Lois. "Of course speculation, but we hope a lot of things really come to fruition."

That speculation stops when it comes to the look of the mall itself and what will fill the shops. Developers wanted to give it a very Kentucky feel with its own spires resembling the iconic Churchill Downs.

The majority of the mall is already leased with stores like Coach, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Nike and Saks Fifth Avenue off 5th.

The outlet mall is set to open July 31, 2014. All together the retailers will create more than 1,000 jobs.
