LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – An undercover drug sting in Lawrenceburg ended with the arrest of a Louisville man in western Shelby County after a police pursuit.

According to a release from Lawrenceburg police, Ahmad M. Ghazawi, 27, came there to sell heroin. What Ghazawi didn't know is the person he was selling to was an undercover police informant and plain clothes officers were watching the transaction take place.

As officers moved in Ghazawi avoided a traffic stop and started the chase that headed west on Interstate 64. It came to an end at the 24 mile marker in western Shelby County just before the Jefferson County line when officers from four agencies were able to stop the 2000 Mercury Sable Ghazawi was driving.

Police recovered approximately 18 grams of heroin with a street value of $7,200.

Ghazawi is being held in the Shelby County Detention Center on two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, speeding over 26 MPH and driving too fast for conditions.

Police say additional charges are pending in Franklin and Shelby counties.
