LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - If gambling were to become legal in Kentucky, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer has said he would prefer a casino to be placed in downtown rather than at Churchill Downs.
Fischer made his comments to the Courier-Journal. Officials with Churchill Downs said they aren't opposed to that plan.
"Should we be given an opportunity for a Louisville casino," said Kevin Flanery, the president of Churchill Downs Racetrack, "we would choose a location that was best for the customer, the city, the state and Churchill Downs. And if downtown should be the right location, we are fine with that."
A spokesman for Mayor Fischer said the mayor has been in Frankfort for the past several weeks lobbying for the downtown casino.
