LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A suspicious suitcase in the middle of the street shut down Westport Road for almost two hours Wednesday.
All lanes of Westport Road were shut down just after 10 a.m. near I-264, in the vicinity of Walser Road and Foeburn Lane in the Woodlawn Park neighborhood, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Dwight Mitchell, a spokesman for LMPD, reported the bomb squad was at the scene "out of an abundance of caution." They found the suitcase on top of a man hole cover.
According to police, there is no pedestrian area nearby and they found no indication of who the bag belonged to.
During the investigation, Air 3 flew over the area. An open suitcase could be seen around 11:30 a.m. on the side of the road, holding what appeared to be clothes. Soon after, the bomb squad cleared the scene.
