Men facing charges related to 21 car break-ins

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Two Louisville men have been charged with committing a number of burglaries from cars.

Arrest warrants for James Kapetanios, 24, and Michael Smith, 21, lists 29 charges against each man for their roles in break-ins which happened between November 1, 2013 and February 26 of this year.

In five cases police said the license plates were stolen from the vehicles, while property was taken on 21 occasions. In addition, a gun was taken from one vehicle.

The warrant says video shows a credit card taken during one of the break-ins being used and the men are accused of breaking into a warehouse.

Kapetanios and Smith were booked into Louisville Metro Corrections early February 27 on the following charges:

  • Five counts of theft of motor vehicle registration plates
  • 21 counts of theft by unlawful taking
  • One count of theft of a firearm
  • One count of fraudulent use of a credit card
  • One count of burglary

Kapetanios and Smith are expected to be arraigned February 28.
