10 students awarded as 2014 McDonald's Black History Makers of Tomorrow

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Ten high school seniors were recognized for their promotion of diversity, leadership, academic achievement and community involvement Thursday.

Community leaders and local McDonald's restaurant owners and operators celebrated the 2014 McDonald's Black History Makers of Tomorrow by awarding $15,000 in scholarships to the students.

The students who earned the award were DuPont Manual High School seniors Kierra Benford and Kyla Grant, Jefferson County High School senior Kajah Cunningham, North Hardin High School seniors Clotie Simmons and Raven Graves, Taylor County High School senior Rebecca Cross, Salem High School senior Davon Gant, Bardstown High School senior Richara Logan, North Oldham High School senior Logan Sanderson and Central High School senior Niala Wagstaff.

Since 2003 nearly $400,000 in scholarships has been awarded to area students by McDonald's Restaurants of Kentuckiana.
