Winter Storm Watch issued, likely to be expanded

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for southern Indiana and Kentucky counties in the northernmost part of the WAVE 3 News viewing area. It is expected to be expanded. The watch will be in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Monday. More on that in a moment.

Today is getting off to a cold start with temperatures in the teens.

Temperatures this afternoon will top out in the upper 30s and low 40s -- 42 in Louisville with increasing amounts of clouds throughout the day.

There's a small chance for a shower/flurries late tonight and into early Saturday morning. This will not cause big problems.

Saturday brings mainly cloudy skies and mild temperatures with highs in the low 50s.

Rain will start by Sunday morning and transition to freezing rain, with the potential for significant ice accumulation by Sunday night. It will transition to all snow on Monday. Timing and amounts will need to be fine tuned as the storm gets closer.
