PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -

A student at an elementary school in Peoria mistakenly took a gun to school for show and tell on Wednesday, according to a letter from the school's principal.

The Oasis Elementary School administration said the gun was "quickly confiscated" and the Peoria Police Department was notified, according to the letter signed by Principal Gail Miller.

The school said there was no malicious intent on the part of the student and that the parents had been notified.

At least one parent who contacted CBS 5 News expressed concern over how the situation was handled.

"I'm very upset at the way the principle (sic) has handled this," the parent wrote. She said her child's kindergarten teacher was unaware of the situation until parents told her.

"I'm not even sure I want to send my children to school there anymore," the parent wrote, adding that she was very angry.

CBS 5 News was awaiting a response from the Peoria Unified School District.

No other information was immediately available.
