Phoenix police Sunday identified the victim of a weekend car accident near 43rd Avenue and Bell Road.
He is 24-year-old Jose Manriquez-Gomez.
Just after midnight Saturday, police said the victim was heading southbound on 43rd Avenue in the curb lane, drove through the intersection at Bell Road and realized he had missed his turn, said Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.
Just south of Bell Road, Manriquez-Gomez attempted to make a U-turn from the curb lane and turned directly into the path of the driver of another vehicle which was southbound in the inside lane, Martos said.
That car collided with the driver's side of the vehicle Manriquez-Gomez was driving, Martos said. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical treatment but died shortly after arrival.
The passengers in victim's vehicle, ages 16 and 18, were also taken to an area hospital and are expected to be OK.
