LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man faces an animal cruelty charge after failing to provide food and water to two dogs that died, according to police.

Michael Milan, 37, brought two deceased female Pomeranians into Metro Animal Services for disposal on November 14, 2013, an arrest report states. Milan told workers the dogs belonged to him and that they died after eating Halloween candy.

A police officer examined the dogs and determined they were severely emaciated and dehydrated. One dog weighed 1.3 lbs. The other dog weighed 2.0 lbs.

The animals were sent to the University of Kentucky for necropsies, which found that the dogs died of severe emaciation. There were no signs either dog had eaten candy.

Milan is charged with cruelty to animals and failure to provide provisions of necessity.
