Sunrise to Go: Wednesday, March 5

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Here are 10 things Kentuckiana will be talking about today:

1. Warmer weather -- WAVE 3 News Storm Tracking Team Meteorologist Christie Dutton is calling for a nice Wednesday as we continue the warming trend with no snow in the forecast.

2. School closings and delays – Jefferson County Public Schools are open and operating on their regular schedules today, but because of poor road conditions in some areas, several other schools are closed or opening their doors late. Click here for the complete list.

3. Tornado drill -- Today at 10:07 a.m., viewers will see an emergency test message on their television screens and hear emergency alert tones and sirens. NOAA weather radios will also be activated as part of an annual statewide tornado drill in Kentucky. Read more about the drill by clicking here.

4. March on Frankfort -- Today marks the 50th anniversary of the March of Frankfort when an estimated 10,000 people converged on the State Capitol calling for civil rights. A commemorative march and rally will be held today in Frankfort.

5. Same-sex marriage fight -- Minutes after Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway tearfully announced that he will not appeal a federal judge's ruling ordering the state to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states, Gov. Steve Beshear announced he will continue to fight for an appeal using private attorneys.

6. Fort Knox schools closing -- Four elementary schools on post will close at the end of the current school year because of the pending loss of the only combat brigade at Fort Knox.

7. Ash Wednesday -- Today is the first day of Lent, a solemn religious observance in many Christian denominations during which believers prepare for the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday. Many churches across Kentuckiana will mark the foreheads of worshippers with ashes today as a sign of repentance to God.

8. Teens injuredThree teenagers were seriously injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash in Washington County, Indiana. All three teens were airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

9. Ex-UK player killed -- Former UK walk-on Kerry Benson and Germina Cruz, a dancer for Louisville's professional indoor football team, the Kentucky Xtreme, have been identified as the victims of a Monday night car crash near Bowman Field.

10. Corvettes removal – Crews will work today to bring more classic Corvettes to the surface after a giant sinkhole swallowed eight cars last month at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green.
