LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A traffic stop has led to the arrest of a woman for stealing the decal of another license plate and putting it on her own plate.
The theft was discovered December 29, 2013 after Teresa D. Booth, 56, was stopped in Wayne, Illinois by a state trooper for a traffic violation. A routine check found the plate on Booth's car had expired in December 2012, but the decal on the plate was current.
When questioned by the trooper, Booth said she had put the decal on the plate herself. After being contacted by Illinois officials, Louisville Metro Police contacted the person Kentucky records show the decal number was issued to. The victim, who turns out to be a neighbor of Booth, checked her car and found the current deal was indeed missing.
Once it was learned the decal was stolen, Booth told the Illinois trooper that she couldn't remember how the decal got on her car. The license plate on Booth's car was confiscated by Illinois State Police.
After she returned to Louisville, Metro police made several attempts to contact Booth. The warrant says Booth would not answer the door or return phone calls. She was arrested March 5 on a warrant for theft of motor vehicle registration plate.
