Students hope to break record with bracelet

LOUISIVLLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville elementary school is hoping bands will bring them a world record title.

Friday students at Christian Academy's Rock Creek elementary campus showed off what they hope will be the world's longest friendship bracelet.

Every student in the school helped to collect and construct 15,000 bands to make the 300 foot long bracelet over a month period.

The school's Chapel Coordinator Michael Troy Shell said the students made the sections four feet at a time then pieced them together.

So what do you do with such a long friendship bracelet?

Shell said they will break it up and share it with children in through the Orphan Care Alliance, "We're going to take this friendship bracelet and turn it back into individual bracelets and put it on a card  with a hand print, each kids hand print, and tell the child we're praying for them, that there's hope and somebody cares about them, they're going through a hard time and we want them to know they have a friend here in the city."

The record isn't official, but they are contacting the Guinness Book of World Records to verify their claim.
