Fire destroys building at Liter's Quarry

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A fire destroyed one building at a quarry in Oldham County Sunday morning.

Crews were called to Liter's Quarry on Haunz Lane off Ballardsville Road on the Jefferson County/Oldham County line at 7:45 a.m. Upon arrival they found a metal-clad building completely up in flames.

Nolan Caudill, Battalion Chief for Worthington Fire, said it took crews longer than usual to get the fire under control because there are no fire hydrants in the area and water had to be shuttled to the scene.

"It's challenging," he said. "We brought in tankers from South Oldham, one of our own from Worthington, and one from Pewee Valley. We had to haul water from about three quarters of a mile away from the scene."

The building is a total loss. Fire crews remained on the scene until around 11:30 a.m.

Chief Caudill went on to say the fire appeared to be accidental.

There were no injuries to emergency or plant personnel during the incident.
