LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A shooting suspect was taken down by a K-9 officer near the University of Louisville Monday afternoon.

According to Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Dwight Mitchell, around 6 p.m. a man was found shot several times in the 400 block of Heywood Avenue.

Mitchell said officers were able to track down, Brandon Parker, 22, the person they believe was responsible for the shooting a few blocks away on Lillian Avenue. Mitchell said a K-9 officer bit the suspect before officers took him into custody.

An arrest slips added that Parker pulled out a bag of heroin while he was running and tried to throw it away. The heroin was apparently packaged to sell.

Both the suspect and the shooting victim were said to have non-life threatening injuries and were taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.
