12-foot deep hole discovered in downtown roadway

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – An area of downtown Louisville has been shut off to traffic after a 12-foot deep hole was discovered in a roadway Tuesday afternoon.

According to MetroSafe the hole was discovered on in the 200 block of 5th Street, between Jefferson and Market Streets, around 6:15 p.m.

The Metropolitan Sewer District placed two metal plates over the hole and placed arrow signs around the area to divert traffic.

The cause of the hole remains under investigation. Metro Public Works will have a crew on the scene of the hole Wednesday to determine what steps need to be taken to repair the roadway.
