33 patients relocated after sprinkler system ruptures at Jewish Hospital

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Crews pulling cable at Jewish Hospital hit a sprinkler line on Wednesday, sending water spewing throughout parts of the 5th and 6th floors and forcing hospital staff to move 33 patients to other parts of the building, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Barbara Mackovic said none of the relocated patients were critical care patients and that all of them were stable and in satisfactory condition. She said the patients were moved in "a very controlled, efficient manner."

Mackovic did not specify the type of water damage but said there was standing water in some areas of the affected floors.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday and caused the fire alarm to sound at the hospital.

Crews were in the process of making repairs and cleaning up the damage.
