LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Papa John's Cardinal Stadium was home to a special kind of job fair Thursday. With more than 35 companies present, Recruit Military put on a job fair just for military veterans, those transitioning out of the military and military spouses.
"It's more than just honoring the veterans and their families that have served and sacrificed over the years," Military Outreach Director Stephen Balzco said. "It's about hiring individuals with wonderful work experience."
After 20 years of service, Dan Teeter has decided to transition out of the army and begin his second career to spend more time with his family.
To walk in to a place filled with employers that want to cater to the soldiers and their families he said is incredible.
"It means that the country's got my back, or these employers got my back," Teeter said. "They realize the things that I have done for this country for the last 20 years to help take care of them and now they want to do a little bit to take care of me."
"It makes you feel good knowing that everyone is interested in you and they kind of have an idea of what you've done and it makes you feel good that you've been doing something with your life that might help you later on down the road," said Cody Cox, who spent the last six years in the Army doing IT work. He came to the job fair looking for an opportunity to further his education in IT.
Balzco said those who serve in the military are the ideal candidate for every level of employment in any field.
"They're attentive, they learn on the fly, they're flexible, leadership skills, management skills and they know how to shift with corporate America to start a new product or start a new line," Balzco said.
