JEFFERSON COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - March Madness isn't the only draw to pubs, clubs and restaurants this weekend. Saint Patrick's Day falling on a Monday means a two-and-a-half day pre-Celebration.

Irish-born bartender Sean Patrick Dee said the combination of warmer weather, Kentucky and Louisville playing in March Madness and St. Patrick's Day celebrations could a lot of business to Molly Malone's in the Highlands.

"You got the combo, it's like super-sizing somethin'," he said. "Between corned beef and cabbage, fish and chips , bangers and mash, fish and chips, hundreds and hundreds, I'd say sleep for me is gonna be very hard this weekend."

Officially, Louisville Metro police call this weekend typical and will not have any special enforcement. But Saint Matthews police will have eight officers on overtime all weekend, public information officer Dennis McDonald said. "Some will be working undercover," he said.

All to make sure the spirits don't overtake the celebration.

Saints in St. Matthews was packed for the Cards and Cats conference tournament battles Friday night. But the crowds were polite.

Dee said the officers will ensure order for Saturday's 3 p.m. St. Patrick's Day parade on Baxter Avenue.

"They keep things sane enough," he said. "It doesn't get out of control. People just want to have a good time and behave themselves."
