LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Here are 10 things Kentuckiana will be talking about today:
1: Warmer Weather – Spring is almost officially here and the weather is starting to reflect that a little more than it did on Sunday. Thursday is the first day of spring and today we will see temperatures in the 60s.
2: Snow Days - The Kentucky Senate approved a more restrictive version of a snow makeup day bill Monday. The Senate voted 38-0 to pass House Bill 211, which would allow school districts to shuffle their calendars as long as they had 1,062 instructional hours for the year without having school days longer than seven hours.
3: Fire – Seven people were able to escape a burning home this morning on Oregon Avenue near Dixie Highway.
4: Grease Fire - Customers had to evacuate a restaurant after a fire started underneath a stove Monday night. According to firefighters who responded to the scene, a grease fire started at the Waffle House on Hurstbourne Parkway, near Interstate 64, around 8 p.m.
5: Not Guilty - A man was arrested in connection to a shooting that killed a 26-year-old woman plead not guilty to charges against him Monday morning.
7: New Business - Kentucky officials are hoping the luck of the Irish rubs off on the Bluegrass economy. An Irish work wear and safety manufacturer announced Monday it's opening for business for the first time in the United States and it will do so right here in Kentucky.
8: Changed - Innocent lives were changed forever after a 5-month-old child was killed in a crash on Friday, March 14 because of an alleged drunk driver. Monday that driver, James O'Bannon, appeared in court.
9: Basketball - From food and drinks to clothing and shoes, no matter where you looked this Saint Patrick's Day, you likely spotted a lot of green. On Monday the Irish holiday also drew out dozens of college basketball fans.
10: Brandy - Move over bourbon there's a new spirit in town and you could consider it a side stop on the urban Bourbon Trail. In just two weeks Copper and Kings will begin distilling its very first batch of American brandy at 1111 East Washington Street.
