Police: Woman killed boyfriend, self in 42nd Street case, baby safe

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - One of two people found dead inside a Louisville home on Tuesday shot and killed her boyfriend, called her parents and 911, and then shot and killed herself, according to Louisville Metro police.

The victims were the parents of an 11-month-old boy who was also found inside the home in the 900 block of South 42nd Street. He was crying, but safe in his crib, investigators said during a Wednesday morning news conference. The child was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital. Police said he would be released to Child Protective Services until he can be placed with family.

Investigators said they were not yet certain of a motive in the murder-suicide, but they believe the couple's relationship was coming to an end. Police had been called to the home previously, but not for domestic violence. Investigators did not elaborate on the nature of the runs.

According to police, a handgun believed to have come from the home was used to carry out the shootings.

The victims names have not yet been released, but police said the woman was 36 and the man was 37 years old.
