LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Cardinal Madness dominated March last year as the men and women's basketball teams played in the NCAA tournament finals.
It could happen again this year as both teams enter the tournament ranked among the top five teams in the country.
Should both advance to the Sweet 16, the road to the women's final four in Nashville and men's final four in Dallas for both teams will be friendlier, as the women will play those two big games in Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center, and the men, right up the road in Indianapolis.
The intrigue of the tournament for both the men and women is Kentucky could possibly be the team that eliminates Louisville in the tournament.
The men would face Kentucky in the Sweet 16, if both teams win their first two games. The Lady Wildcats would face the Lady Cardinals in the final four if they both win their regions.
The Lady Wildcats enter the tournament as a third seed and like the men, have already beaten Louisville in the regular season.
Let's hope the teams do meet for both the men and women, for that would mean at least one Kentucky team would be in the women's final and one in the men's Elite Eight!
And coming off the fantastic finishes of the past two years, with two national champions and a national champion runner up, it would further solidify the Commonwealth as the pre-eminent college basketball power in the nation.
