First Alert Weather: spring is here! ...but winter-style weather returns next week

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A high pressure system will bring continued tranquil and dry weather through Friday night. The approach and ultimate passage of a cold front could trigger a few showers for the weekend. Next Tuesday: a cold and wet storm system will track near the Carolina Coast. Details...

SATURDAY: Ahead of the cold front, expect variable clouds and warm southwest breezes of around 10 to 15mph. Temperatures will grow to highs mainly in the mid and upper 70s inland with 60s more common for many beach communities. The risk of a shower will grow from near 10% early to near 30% for the afternoon.

SUNDAY: With the passage of the cold front, winds initially south will turn north late (10 to 15mph speeds). Skies will be variably cloudy and the shower risk will stay around 30%. Temperatures will likely crest in the 60s but a few spots could eek-out the 70s if the cold front is slightly delayed.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will likely be partly cloudy and chilly with highs in the 50s. Said storm system will likely bring a rainy and raw Tuesday with temperatures mainly in the 30s and 40s - ouch. Post-storm: expect a brighter Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the 50s and 60s, respectively. Sub-freezing temperatures will be possible Wednesday night.
