Jeffersonville SWAT standoff comes to deadly end

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) – A standoff between a man and police has ended after police say the man took his own life.

According to Det. Sgt. Todd Hollis of the Jeffersonville Police Department, the standoff began around 8 a.m. when Raymond C. Korb, 27, showed up at the home of his estranged wife in the 1700 block of Birchbark Lane and confronted her with a rifle. Hollis said the woman called police and responding officers were able to get her and two young children out of the house.

Officers had started negotiations with Korb by phone. Negotiators were trying to get Korb to surrender peacefully. Around 10:40 a.m., about two hours into the negotiations, Hollis said they heard a gunshot from inside the home. The Louisville Metro Police bomb squad was called to the scene so its robot could be used to see what was happening inside.

After the SWAT team forced entry into the home, the robot showed Korb was down in the living room. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
