Man arrested after taking kids on wild ride

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville man is facing a string of charges after he was arrested for driving recklessly in the downtown area.

An arrest reports states that Jefferson County sheriff's deputies saw Anthony Antonio Eddins, 36, at Hancock and Jefferson streets around 5:25 p.m. March 26 driving a high rate of speed.

Deputies said Eddins was heading to a line of orange construction barrels set up as part of the Ohio River Bridges Project when he swerved to the right at the last minute to avoid them. The report says Eddins then swerved his car onto Jefferson Street, causing the vehicle to fishtail and nearly losing control of it.

Deputies said they tried to stop the car, but Eddins tried to get away. He was blocked by traffic on Jefferson at Preston Street. Deputies ordered Eddins didn't comply with a second request deputies opened the car door and forcibly removed him. While being handcuffed, Eddins continued to fight the deputies and tried to kick them.

The report says Eddins smelled strongly of alcohol and a nearly empty alcoholic beverage container was found in the cupholder of the vehicle.

Deputies said two juveniles, Eddins' daughter and her boyfriend, were inside the car. Eddins daughter told deputies she asked him to stop, but Eddins said, "I'm not stopping, y'all hold on."

Eddins is charged with two counts of wanton endangerment, one count each of reckless driving, fleeing or evading police, no operators license, possession of an open beverage container in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain insurance, terroristic threatening, criminal mischief, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest.
