TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Arizona Wildcats aremoving on to the 'Elite Eight'.  Thursdaynight's game against San Diego State had fans on the edge of their seats upuntil the last few seconds - but the Wildcats finally beat the Aztecs 70 to 64.

Now many fans can see whythe team is nicknamed 'The Cardiac Cats', the team had many hearts beatingpretty fast last night.

It must have been the samefeeling for a number of fans that were out celebrating on the UA campus.  As soon as the buzzer sounded and the Catswon, fans near the university took to the street.  They blocked University Blvd. and ran ontothe streetcar stop between Gentle Ben's and Frog n' Firkin.  This all happened around 10 p.m., it was tenminutes later when Tucson Police showed up in protective gear.

Officers began to walk thestreet, telling fans to move on to the sidewalk, the scene was under controlwith a majority of the fans heading home by 10:30.

Tucson Police wereprepared for this scenario; they began training for large gatherings and crowdcontrol when they knew the U of A was headed to the NCAA tournament.  This early training was to avoid incidentslike what happened in 1997 when U of A won the National Championship, and whathappened in 2001 when the Wildcats lost to Duke.  This year TPD officers are better prepared for all of it.
