LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The run for the national championship continues for one team from the Bluegrass, but has come to an end for the other.
In Friday's Midwest Regional semifinal at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the University of Kentucky Wildcats defeated the University of Louisville Cardinals 74-69 in a Sweet Sixteen matchup.
In the regular season matchup on December 28, Kentucky defeated Louisville 73-66 at Rupp Arena.
Both teams made it to the Sweet Sixteen match in very different ways. On Saturday, March 22 in Orlando, UofL took a more business-like approach after their 15 point win over St Louis. The Cards were happy to move on, but by no means satisfied. The Cats put out a different vibe the next day after knocking off #1 seed Wichita State in St. Louis.
The Wildcats will play Michigan in the regional final Sunday afternoon. The winner gets a trip to the Final Four in Arlington, Texas.
