UNDATED (AP) - The Florida Gators had been eliminated from the NCAA men's basketball tournament in the regional finals each of the previous three years. They got it right this time.
The top-seeded Gators earned a trip to Dallas and ended Dayton's surprising run in the tournament by downing the 11th-seeded Flyers 62-52 to win the South Regional in Memphis. Scottie Wilbekin (WIHL'-beh-kihn) scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as the Gators picked up their 30th consecutive victory. Patric Young added 12 and seven rebounds to help Florida finally reach the national semifinals after three straight exits in the regional finals.
Dyshawn Pierre had a team-high 18 points for the Flyers, who had advanced to the Elite Eight with wins against Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford.
