MARICOPA, AZ (CBS5) -

A group of moms in Maricopa have never met her and they don't even know her name, yet they're paying it forward to a special woman who is inspiring a lot of people.

For years, a spiritual and smiling woman has walked her grandchildren to school each morning, marching to the beat of gospel music and singing all the way.

"You just see how happy she is every single day and you cannot help but smile and be happy because it's contagious. She passes it on," said Jennifer Gilkerson of the group called "Maricopa Moms."

Gilkerson mentioned this anonymous woman to her mom's group and was amazed at how many others had seen her and been touched by her spirit.

"But nobody knows her name. We just know her as 'the lady' or 'the happy lady,'" Gilkerson said.

Armed with flowers, a customized charm bracelet and a pocket full of Pay It Forward cash, Gilkerson gathered some of her friends to solve the mystery and spread some good cheer of their own.

"Every day we see you walking down here singing with your hands stretched up, praising the lord," Gilkerson said to the mystery woman. "I want you to know that has touched so many of us."

"We like to do things for other people like pay it forward and so for you today, I have $500," Gilkerson explained.

"I've been walking and praising the lord for five years," Winora Hughes said. "The more I do it, the more I get into it, you know, and it's just my way of thanking him for being in my life."

"I like to pray for the schools, I like to pray for the neighborhood, you know. I just want to be a blessing to everybody," Hughes said.

But what the Maricopa Moms didn't know is that Hughes has been down on her luck lately and she believes the $500 is heaven sent.

"Right now, I'm in financial need and it's just so on time. God is always on time and you never know how he is going to bless you. This is just a blessing," Hughes said.
