Kentucky Guardsman received major honor

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Kentucky Guardsman received a major honor after being wounded in combat in 2005 in Iraq.

Sergeant Jesse Wethington from Liberty Kentucky received the Purple Heart April 5 the VFW post in Middletown.

Staff Sergeant Glen Phillips made the medal recommendation to Senator Mitch McConnell's office to honor Wethington's service and sacrifice.

"We all see news and of course bad things happening in the world seems like that's all we see. Sometimes it makes us not want to believe in the America that we old folks and some people talk about but, seeing an omission corrected by the United States army and by senator McConnell it makes you feel good inside," said Retired Staff Sgt. Phillips.

Several Kentucky veterans' service organizations attended the event.

McConnell personally presented the medal to Wethington.
