Suspect charged with murder in shooting death of Louisville woman

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a woman in March in the Russell neighborhood.

According to an arrest warrant, Cedric L. Wells, 30, shot and killed 26-year-old Ashley Thomas outside an apartment complex on Esquire Alley on March 15. A second victim, Shaconda Malone was shot in the hand.

Witnesses told police Wells was in possession of a handgun which he fired several times, striking Thomas.

Because of the location of the shooting, police said Wells created the risk of serious physical injury and potential death to the witnesses and residents of the apartment complex.

In addition to the murder charge, Wells is also charged with first-degree assault, wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

One day after the murder, Roy Stone, 21, was taken into custody and charged with complicity to murder, assault and wanton endangerment in connection to the shootings.
