TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Some of the best shotgun shooters in the world are in Tucson today, to help them qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

The Tucson Trap and Skeet Club near Ajo Way and Kinney Rd. is hosting the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup.  There are more than 200 of the world's best shooters from 65 different countries here to qualify.

This is only the second time that the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club has hosted one of the four world cup shotgun Olympic qualification competitions.

For those not familiar with trap and skeet shooting - trap shooting involves shooting a clay disc, thrown into the air by a machine that is below ground in the trap house.  While skeet shooting involves shooting two clay targets thrown by two different traps, one up high and the other down low.

The main draw for shooters to Tucson are the 50 trap fields and 15 skeet fields, making it the only facility in the U.S. equipped to host this Olympic qualifying competition trap and skeet shoot at the same time.

The public is invited to watch accomplished marksmen and markswomen, including five-time Olympic medal winner Kim Rhode of California and 19-year-old Luis "Taz" Gloria of Tucson, who are attempting to qualify for the World Championships in Granada, Spain, in September and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
