The Reds added a key piece to the bullpen by activating Jonathan Broxton for the first time this year.
Broxton started the season on the disabled list, but rejoined the team Tuesday in St. Louis and is available to pitch immediately.
Broxton, who has 111 career saves, could be a prime candidate to close with Aroldis Chapman still recovering from his spring training injury.
To make room for Broxton on the roster, the Reds placed relief pitcher Trevor Bell on the disabled list with inflammation in his pitching elbow.
Broxton is in his third season with the Reds and has primarily been a set up man in the bullpen.
