LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - This past year, Dare to Care and their many partners provided over 13 million meals to nearly 200,000 people. Clearly, the need is great in our community.
We applaud one the partners in particular – Meijer - for triple matching every $10 Simply Give donation to Dare to Care this week in honor of the 25th annual Thunder Over Louisville, an event they are also sponsoring.
Meijer will host a Family Fun Zone on the Belvedere Saturday where Food Pantry Donation Cards will be available. The Simply Gives program helps restock the shelves of local food pantries.
The Kentucky Derby Festival's Dare to Care Taste of Derby Festival this week will also help support this vitally important community organization, this year marks the 45th anniversary of the death of Bobby Ellis, 9, who died of malnutrition in his Louisville home, spurring the creation of the Dare to Care Food Bank.
Dare to Care relies on 3,000 volunteers to help fulfill their mission.
Serving a meal at one of Dare to Care's Kids Café sites or sorting food at their warehouse, might be a good choice for a giving effort next week during Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher's Give-A-Day Week.
In 2013, well over one hundred thousand people of all ages participated in the Give-A-Week effort, with acts of compassion of all kinds!
It is a great way to ring in the Derby Season!
