MILTON, KY (WAVE) – The Milton-Madison Bridge is once again on the move.

The 2,427-foot-long truss is being moved 55 feet from temporary piers onto the permanent ones that once held the old span. The slide, which started April 9, had progressed 16 feet in eight hours before windy conditions brought it to a halt.

The builder of the bridge, Walsh Construction, brought in materials from the Ohio River Bridges project to assist synchronizing the slide of the span onto its five permanent piers.

While a move of 10 feet per hour is possible, officials said many stops are being taken during the slide. They also say weather conditions may prevent the full move of 39 feet from being completed today.
