LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man being held at Louisville Metro Corrections is facing charges that he repeatedly violated an emergency protective order by calling his victim from jail.

An arrest warrant says Michael Noel Newman, 39, was arrested for assaulting the victim. While being held at Metro Corrections, the warrant says between April 5 and April 7 Newman called his victim 12 times in an attempt to influence and intimidate.

Police said Newman was trying to get his victim to drop the charges and telling the victim what to say to make that happen. The warrant says among the statements Newman made to the victim were, "I'm trying to use you to help get me out … if I have to get out on my own it's going to be a lot different," and "so you are getting ready to watch your back forever or are you gonna go on and handle this and then you can be safe."

Newman has been charged with 12 counts of violation of an EPO/DVO, along with one count each of intimidating a participant in the legal process and tampering with a witness.
