CHEVIOT, OH (FOX19) -
Between Italian culture, live music, a wine garden and meatballs with marinara, there are plenty of reasons to love the Cincinnati Italian Festival.
The fifth annual CincItalia begins Friday, May 16 at Harvest Home Park, presented by St. Catharine of Siena Parish and School. In celebration, the organizers brainstormed the top five reasons why you should attend.
5. Italian Heritage
CincItalia is a true celebration of culture and heritage. In Italy, communities hold "festas" (celebrations that praise a patron saint) or "sagras" (festivals honoring food), such as the Sagra della Focaccia in Cerreto, Italy in celebration of bread. These festivals include music and dancing. CincItalia honors Saint Catharine of Siena and celebrates the Italian heritage of many Cincinnatians.
4. Mustache Madness
The CincItalia Mustache Contest takes place on the main stage Sunday, May 18 at 5 p.m. with help from the Cincinnati Beard Barons and special guest Mr. Redlegs. Those interested in competing can register at the festival.
Westside rockers, The Remains, perform during the adults-only celebration on Friday. National music acts, including Aaron Caruso, Ray Massa's Euro Rhythms and The Cavaliers Italian-American Band, hit the stage Saturday and Sunday.
2. Fun with family and friends
CincItalia is one of the first festivals of the season. Relax in the Wine Garden or try your hand at "Big Six." There are children's games and rides on Saturday and Sunday.
Notice 'FOOD' in all caps. From meatballs and marinara to penne and parmigiana, an Italian feast awaits at CincItalia. Cuisine from some of Greater Cincinnati's Italian organizations, churches, and restaurants is offered throughout the three-day festival. La Societa Fuscaldese Femminile serves cannoli and other baked goods. Local chefs including the LaRosa family and Giovanna Delli Carpini Trimpe will prepare Italian favorites live for attendees.
