LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A southern Indiana man is facing charges for an attack on a woman who was breaking off their relationship.
In an arrest warrant, Louisville Metro Police say Jonathan Walter Smith, 37, of Crothersville, Indiana assaulted and sexually abused his former girlfriend.
Information in the warrant says Smith convinced the woman to meet with him after he talked about killing himself. The assault happened after she got into his car during her lunch hour. Smith is accused of grabbing the woman by the neck and attempted to strangle her. When she tried to get out of the car, the warrant says Smith grabbed her and pulled her back in several times.
The warrant also states Smith drove recklessly on LaGrange Road swerving the car into traffic and endangering the lives of others. After taking her back to her job, Smith left.
Smith was arrested by April 14 at the Hall of Justice by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies. He is being held on assault, sexual abuse and wanton endangerment charges at Louisville Metro Corrections.
