CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A teenage girl charged with robbing a Hyde Park bank and then fleeing to Kenwood Towne Center appeared in Hamilton County Juvenile Court Tuesday morning.

The 16-year-old faced Hamilton County Magistrate Wende Cross who ruled that she would remain at the Hamilton County juvenile detention center until a hearing on May 1 to determine if she will be tried as an adult. Prosecutors hope to try her as an adult for a felony robbery charge with two firearm specifications.

A public defender asked Cross to release the teen to her mother's custody so that the teen could remain in school.

"She obviously does not take her school very seriously because yesterday was a Monday," said Assistant Prosecutor Allison Bisig Oswall. "When she should have been in school, she was out robbing a bank."

Officers were dispatched Monday afternoon to PNC Bank on Paxton Avenue for a reported robbery. According to prosecutors, the teen is accused of handing the teller a note and demanding cash while implying she had a gun.

Officers used a GPS tracking device in the money bag to locate the suspect at the Kenwood Towne Centre in Sycamore Township, prompting a lockdown at the shopping mall. The teen was taken into custody shortly after.
