LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville Metro Police Department officer and the driver of an SUV were injured in a wreck on Interstate 64.

According to MetroSafe, the crash happened just after 10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-64, between 22nd and 9th Streets.

Police said the officer was on traffic duty on I-64 when the driver of the SUV misjudged the distance they had to merge and rear ended the officer's cruiser.

Both the officer and the driver of the SUV were taken to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the SUV was being treated for neck, back and leg pain. The officer sustained a head injury but was conscious and alert.

Traffic was shut down near the crash scene to allow the LMPD Traffic Unit to investigate the wreck.
