LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - People who live and work on the backside of Churchill Downs learned a lesson that could help save a life on Tuesday.

Students with Adelante Hispanic Achievers and Louisville EMS workers gave lessons on how to perform CPR as part of Mayor Greg Fischer's Give-A-Day Week of Service.

The American Heart Association found if CPR is given while first responders are on their way the likelihood of survival increases dramatically.

About 80 percent of the equine workers on the tracks backside are Hispanic. The students hope they will pass on the training they learned to others in Hispanic communities.
