MILTON KY (WAVE) – One week after a new span was slid into place, the Milton-Madison Bridge will soon be reopened to traffic.

Officials with the bridge project said the new bridge will be opened to all motorists at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, April 17. No formal ceremony will be held at that time.

The truss, which spans 2,428 feet, is twice as wide as the original bridge built in 1929. It was moved by hydraulic jacks 55 feet from temporary piers onto the refurbished permanent ones.

The reopening of the bridge which connect Milton, KY to Madison, IN to traffic does not mean all work in the area is done. Transportation officials from Kentucky and Indiana say the bridge is still considered a work zone and a 20 mile per hour speed limit is in place.
