LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Bond has been set at $1 million cash for the man charged with hitting and killing a five year old boy riding on his scooter.

Edward Pearce, 24, was arrested near his home about four miles from the accident scene on Grandel Boulevard. Witnesses said Benjamin Clem was on the sidewalk when the van he ran off the roadway and hit him.

Pearce left the scene, but neighbors were able to give police the license plate of the vehicle that hit Benjamin.

Metro Police charged Pearce with murder, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to stop and render aid and possession of a controlled substance. Court records show Pearce was previously convicted of DUI in July 2013.

His next court date has been set for April 28.
