Rutherford County teen accused of killing family dog

A Rutherford County teenager is accused of killing his own family's dog, and neighbors say they can't believe how something like this could happen.

Deputies arrested the 16-year-old boy for aggravated animal cruelty after they found an adult boxer hidden in a tub in a storage barn in Christiana.

Officials say the dog had suffered multiple stab wounds and trauma to the head. When a deputy asked the boy if he had killed the dog, they say the boy lowered his head, and said, "yes."

"Nobody should die that way. I feel bad for the family who owned him. It's just wrong," said Christiana resident Dwayne Chester.

Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold says investigators take these cases seriously, and the boy was taken to the juvenile detention center.

Due to the teen's age, however, the sheriff's office can't release any more information about him.

"My fear is what else would he kill? Who else would he kill? Was it just for kicks? Was it just to watch the dog suffer? I don't know," said Christiana resident Pamela Chester.

If you suspect anyone of animal cruelty, you should contact your local law enforcement agency.
